Staff Leadership
Director of Operations and Development
The Reverend Doctor Jocelynn Hughes (she/her)
Jocelynn is thrilled to return to campus ministry at UCD as the Director of Operations at CA House! A life-long Episcopalian, she felt called to ordination in high school, but wondered how God could use a ballerina for ministry. She found her answer as a student in campus ministry! After earning her BA in Philosophy and Religion at Goucher College, she was awarded a fellowship to enter the PhD program in Philosophy at the University of South Florida. After completing her MA and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies there, her Bishop said, “Go to seminary,” and so she headed to Yale, where she earned an M.Div.
After being ordained in 2004, she served as Associate Rector for children, youth, and young adults at St. Andrew’s in Encinitas, CA. Then, in 2008, she was called to be the Lutheran Episcopal Campus Chaplain at The Belfry (right down the street from CA House!), where she served for 10 years and loved every minute of it. Jocelynn rebuilt the student ministry there and, in 2012, launched a young adult service corps program called “LEVN,” an intentional community housed at the Belfry. While at the Belfry, she was active in the URC and served as Convener of the ICC for five years. Through these experiences, her love and passion for ecumenical and interfaith ministry only deepened.
However, due to the needs of her family, she left the Belfry to become a primary parent in 2018. During this hiatus, she earned a Doctor of Ministry from Emory, focusing on Church Leadership and Community Witness. From 2020-2022, she was Rector (lead Pastor) of St. David’s Church and Preschool in San Diego.
Jocelynn is a mom of 3 rapidly growing kids, and has been happily married for 20 years. The family enjoys hockey, dance, Broadway musicals, and theme parks. Jocelynn is always up to talk about feminist ethics and theology – especially liberation theology – and usually has a candy stash in her office, so stop by anytime!

Director of Spiritual Engagement and Campus Minister
The Reverend Lauren Jewett (she/her)
Lauren Jewett joined CA House as the Program Coordinator in Fall 2021 and now serves as the Director of Spiritual Engagement and Campus Minister. Lauren brings her experience of facilitating immersive community service work and comprehensive sexuality education with a focus on empowerment and coaching to her programmatic and spiritual care work at CA House.
A 2018 Dean’s Scholar and Master of Divinity graduate of Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA where she was awarded the Beloved Community Award for her contributions to creating a vibrant and transformational PSR Community, Lauren’s greatest passion is to facilitate and co-create brave spaces where young people are invited to show up as their full selves, with permission to continue to discover and be curious about who they are and what they think, believe, and feel about the world around them. She recently completed a 9 month residency as a Chaplain at the UC Davis Medical Center, providing spiritual care and support to patients and staff during the peaks of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lauren is an ordained and authorized minister with the Northern California Nevada Conference of the UCC and a member of Parkside Community Church, in Sacramento.
A farmgirl at heart, when not working or pursuing steps towards ordination, Lauren can be found outside on the water or in the mountains, paddleboarding, hammocking, traveling the world, gardening, playing with her dog, or, if inside: writing letters, reading a good book or working on her blog of inclusive and diverse youth literature recommendations.
To contact Lauren, email her at Lauren@cahouse.org.
