Sustainable Living

In an ever-changing and developing world, CA House believes it is more important than ever to be committed to sustainable practices and environmentally conscious living. As Christians we are called to be stewards of the earth, but as a collective humanity we have a mutual responsibility to protect and respect the earth. We practice this value through efficient composting and recycling systems, encouraging our residents to participate with the bins provided to them, and promoting Davis’s bicycle culture to reduce carbon emissions. Our MLC townhouses were constructed using green materials, and we continually seek new and developing eco-friendly technologies to incorporate into our daily living. At our programming events, we invite community members and local organizations to educate us on current environmental issues and ways to get involved.

There is always room to improve! Contact us, if you have suggestions or know of resources to further develop our sustainable lifestyle!

Social Justice

As a progressive Christian ministry, we believe in Jesus’s calling to social justice in our community and the world, and lead by His example. CA House is rooted in 100 years of social justice history, including participating in the Martin Luther King Jr. march on Selma, being one of the first LGBT inclusive organizations of our community, and supporting gender equality. It is through this religious and historical framework that we pursue causes that seek positive change. At our Christian and Multifaith Programs we lead discussions on current events and social justice issues, to educate our students and community about the pressing needs of our society. Additionally, CA House partners with local organizations, as well as coordinates its own service events and retreats. These include serving meals at local shelters, home repair and construction work, fundraisers and drives.

Passionate about a cause or getting involved with a CA House’s social justice mission? Contact us, for further details. We are eager to get involved!

“He has told you what is good;
    and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
    and to walk humbly with your God?” ~ Micah 6:7-9

Faith

How are you developing yourself mentally and spiritually? At CA House we believe in living a daily commitment to spiritual and religious exploration and fulfillment. This takes many forms, sometimes it is an organic process of developing relationships with other students of faith, other times it is through our spiritual development programming, including small groups, Christian Program, Multifaith Program, and individual mentoring with Campus Minister, Sara. If you are looking for a space to learn more about your personal beliefs, develop yourself spiritually, and form a community with other students, and Davis community members who are doing the same, CA House continually strives to offer those resources. “Each one of us has our own evolution of life, and each one of us goes through different tests which are unique and challenging. But certain things are common. And we do learn things from each other’s experience. On a spiritual journey, we all have the same destination.” ~ A. R. Rahman

Community

At CA House we are committed to living intentionally with one another, and forming a meaningful, mutually supportive community. Residents of our Multifaith Living Community commit themselves to this mission in numerous ways: contributing a weekly meal at one of our Multfaith Dinners, per quarter, participating in our small groups, retreats, and other activities, and otherwise living intentionally among a diverse group of students. Living at the MLC offers a truly unique housing experience for students. To learn more about the MLC and the application process, click here.

We also strive to engage the UC Davis and larger City of Davis community through our programs and outreach. We believe in the importance of connection, dialogue, and mutual support that a true community can provide. We are honored to support and be supported by an ecumenical community of congregations, as well as local interfaith partners. To learn more about our resources and affiliations click here.
